Pop goes my Art #4

Pop goes my Art is our studio's love letter to the editorial color block — the kind of image that lived on the back of Italian Vogue in the late eighties and still feels louder than anything on a phone screen today. Each frame in the series sets a poised face against torn planes of saturated color: emerald, hot pink, vermilion, sky blue, mint. The faces are still and composed; the color around them is anything but. We treat the portrait as one element in a graphic composition, not the only one. Makeup behaves like a fifth or sixth pigment in the palette — a green stripe across an eyelid, a blue wash down the nose bridge, a red lip that anchors everything. The register is photographic but the geometry is closer to collage and silkscreen, with knowing nods to Warhol, Erté and the early Benetton campaigns. Together the pieces work as a small, confident wall — a series for rooms that already have personality and want a little more nerve.
