Bantry Bay Moderne

The Mother City is frida's love letter to Cape Town — the place locals call by its old name, the city that sits between Table Mountain and two oceans. Across the series, frida moves through the city's contradictions in a quiet black-and-white register: modernist villas curving above the Atlantic, agave and yucca breaking through stone walls, the slow geometry of Bo-Kaap, the long horizons of Camps Bay. Nothing is staged. Each frame is a moment held lightly — the kind a photographer notices when they've stopped looking for pictures and started looking at the city itself. The palette stays tonal throughout: soft greys, paper whites, the deep charcoals of shadow. frida lets the architecture and vegetation speak in their own forms — curves answering curves, palms answering parapets, rough stone meeting smooth render. The series sits closer to a journal than a portfolio. Hung together, the frames build a portrait of a city older and quieter than its postcards. Hung alone, each holds its own weather.
