The Mother City is frida's love letter to Cape Town — a city that wears its weather like a mood and its mountains like a backdrop nobody can quite believe is real. The series moves through Camps Bay sand, Bo-Kaap colour, harbour light and the long flat afternoons where the wind drops and the city softens. Every frame is shot on location, in available light, with a quiet preference for the in-between moments — empty loungers before the crowd, a single figure on a long beach, the geometry of a lifeguard tower against granite. The palette is sun-bleached and salt-worn: bone whites, slate greys, palm greens, the occasional jolt of Atlantic blue. Nothing is staged for postcard charm. The Twelve Apostles do their own work; frida just waits for the light to settle. Together the series reads less like a travelogue and more like a held breath — Cape Town as a place that keeps teaching you to slow down and notice the scale of things.
