Yakitori Alley

30 Days in Tokyo is a month held on film — the city walked, not chased. Each Tokyo street photography print catches a different register of the same metropolis: a rooftop sprawl under soft grey sky, a temple courtyard guarded by a modernist tower, a bilingual sign glowing over an empty crossing at dusk. Frida Fuchs photographs in the patient tradition of Wim Wenders' Tokyo-Ga — less spectacle, more attention. The frames are loose, grain-warm, composed on the move. Negative space is generous. Colour, when it arrives, arrives as a single tungsten window or the faint peach of winter afternoon. There is no drama pushed onto the subject — the city is allowed to be itself. This is work for rooms that prefer low conversation to loud statement — a hallway lined in oak, a writer's desk facing the window, a kitchen that smells of green tea on Sunday afternoon.
