Stiller Life #3

Stiller Life is our love letter to the Dutch Golden Age — the dark grounds, the spilled fruit, the impossible bouquets of de Heem and Ruysch — pulled into a contemporary photographic register and turned up just slightly past where decorum allows. Each frame in the series reads like a still life that has been remembered rather than observed: the peony a little too pink, the marble a little too cold, the butterfly suspended mid-flight where a 17th-century painter would never have caught it. The palette across the series stays disciplined — deep ink-blue and near-black grounds, ivory and shell-pink highlights, an occasional acid orange or sulphur yellow used sparingly as a punctuation mark. Vases shift, fruit shifts, the cast of insects shifts, but the mood holds: opulent, theatrical, and quietly aware of its own staging. These are pictures for rooms that already know what they are — a kitchen with good knives, a dining room that gets used, a hallway that earns its second look.
